New York Times business section home page infected by Trojan virus (Do not try this at home!)

by asli 13. September 2009 17:17

Just when you thought the New York City business was starting to get healthy again, our premier business news source suffers from an infection by a Trojan virus. My manager just pointed this out to me this morning, and sure enough, clicking on the business section from the the NY Times the home page will set off a redirect to a different site and attempt to install a virus.

The site will then pretend to run a scan on your system

Even if you click cancel, the website will continue to redirect you to fake modal screens, trying to trick you into installing the virus:

This happened to me, what should I do?

By all means, whatever you do, don’t click ok.  Instead, the safest thing to do is to terminate the process entirely by click CTRL+ALT+Delete and killing the process.
